they are just as excited as
you are, a
bout being together.  Now, let's talk about this
freedom thing...
The puppies have gotten so big, playful, and sociable.  Wait,
did I forget to say active, oh yeah, active, very, very active. Just
as you would want and expect from a 2 month old puppy.
As each week has gone by since they were born, it has
gotten busier and busier for them and me. This past week they

7 1/2 WEEKS OLD:
Pictures 1 and 2
The puppies are very
fortunate that Brazin is
still allowing them to
nurse.  They don't need
her milk anymore, but
don't pass up the
chance for a quick
drink when mommy
goes in to check up on
things.  The other day, I
came home to find
Brazin limping  and
holding her leg up.  I
assumed she tried to
jump into the box while
I was out and sprained
her leg.
 You can see
how high the sides are
now that we have a few
escape artists.
The vet checked her
and found that it did not
appear to be from
spraining her foot but
from another bout of
Lyme.  Sorry guys,
moms going on  meds
now, so take your last
drink.
were tested by the Puppy Aptitude Test, to help see their temperament and personality.   Although to them is was just a lot of
play time, this test coupled with my own observations
, is another good tool to help me to guide the family in deciding which
puppy would be best for them.

Along with that testing, this past week they also had their 1st Vet visit  for their health checkups, been de-wormed a third
time, and had more times outside in the ex-pen,to enjoy the fresh air and observe more of this world they are so
anxious to explore.   At 8 weeks of age,  they will be receiving their first shot in a series of vaccines they will need to get in
order to protect them from serious illnesses, like Parvo and Distemper, which unvaccinated animals can contract. In order to
get the puppies used to them, for when they go home, I also have them wearing regular collars.

Then, last but not least, right before they leave here, they get to visit the MOA Beauty Salon where they will receive a
luxurious soak in the tub, get their nails and ears done, fluff dried, and then wrapped in a straight jacket so they can't get dirty
again till they go home.
Only kidding about the straight jacket part.  However, as much fun as the puppies are, 10 of them
together is a challenge to keep them clean.  I will not go into details, but I am sure you can use you imagination for that one.
There are not too many pictures this week
, because the pups just run to me whenever I approach the box, so the pictures
are all basically very similar and blurry.  I will be making up another video shortly, so check back to this page from time to time
to see if I put up the link under the VIDEOS OF THE PUPPIES section above.

PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU VIEW THE PICTURES IN THE ROTATING FRAME BELOW, FOUND
                                                                                  AFTER THE PUPS INDIVIDUAL PORTRAITS.
"Finally" they say. "We are ready to
move on outta here, be free, and
explore the world".

Well, not so fast sweet puppies.
You still have a few more days
here before you will get to meet
your new families and have
some more freedom.  Believe me
,
Pictures 1 and 2
Nearly impossible to
get a picture that isn't a
bit blurry because the
puppies are so active
now.  As soon as they
see someone they dart
over hoping to get
picked up.  They are
soooo ready to go into
their new homes.

 Each day leads to
more of a challenge to
make sure a puppy
cannot climb out.  It has
already happened a
couple of times.

Fortunately though,
Brazin understands that
they are not to be out of
the whelping box and
will come and get me.
She has even awoken
me in the middle of the
night, to let me know
about an escape artist
roaming the room.

Picture 1
Lakota has found a nice spot wh
ere he doesn't get into any trouble by
climbing out of the box
, and yet he can look all around in spite of the
high walls
containing the puppies.

WOW.  Look how he is so relaxed peering over the side.  He must
be pretty strong to hang on to the post and not fall
back down.

Picture 2
NOT!   As you can see in the second picture, he is not Super puppy
after all.  Lakota found a toy which
was hanging down from the side
of the box and figured out
that he could  stand on it to stay perched
above the sides to look out.

Goldens are very smart dogs.  Actually,  4h place in the intelligence
scale for dogs, just after the Border Collie, Poodle, and German
Shepherd.

Below are some examples of the PAT exercises that are done
with the 7 week old puppies. as a way to test behavioral
tendencies and predict what a puppy will be like as an adult.
Seeing these pictures makes me sad because my close friend
Pat, who is doing this test with the puppies, was suddenly
called home to be with the Lord 3 days later.  I miss you Pat.
Hey, where are
you taking us?
